The alloys of medical aluminum foils are 8011, 8021 and 8079 foil. Aluminum foils used for pharmaceutical packaging are generally the following: PTP aluminum foil,aluminum blister foil, aluminum-plastic composite materials, pharmaceutical bottle caps.

PTP aluminum foil: It is also called PTP blister foil, often used to the packaging of capsule or tablets, mainly made of 8011-H18 or 8011-O aluminum foil. The thickness is within 0.016 to 0.04 mm.

Aluminum blister foil: also known as alu alu base foil. It is mainly made of 8021-O aluminum foil and is used for high-end and tightly sealed moisture-proof and light-shielding drug packaging. The thickness is 0.04-0.065mm.

Aluminum-plastic aluminum: refers to adding a layer of cold-pressed aluminum foil on the outside of the thermoformed plastic blister and PTP aluminum foil. 8021-O aluminum foil and 8079-O aluminum foil are two common choices.

Aluminum foil for pharmaceutical bottle caps: It is mainly made of 8011-H14 aluminum foil or 8011-H16 aluminum foil. It is widely used in bottled liquids, such as oral liquids for medicine, antibiotics, and infusions.

What tests are needed for pharmaceutical aluminum foil?

In order to ensure the quality and applicability of pharmaceutical aluminum foil packaging, a series of rigorous experimental evaluations and verifications are required.

Thickness measurement is a key step to ensure that the pharmaceutical aluminum foil meets the thickness specified in the standard. Appropriate thickness can provide sufficient protection so that the drug is not easily damaged during the packaging process.

The importance of surface finish testing cannot be ignored. It can ensure that the surface of the aluminum foil is clean and tidy, avoiding stains, dents and other problems. This is crucial to ensure the sanitary conditions of drug packaging and further improve the safety of drugs.

The tensile strength test and barrier performance test respectively evaluate the tensile properties of the aluminum foil when subjected to force and the barrier effect on external gases such as oxygen and water vapor. The heat sealing performance test is used to detect the heat sealing performance of pharmaceutical aluminum foil and other materials to ensure effective sealing, avoid packaging damage and drug contamination. At the same time, the printing adhesion of the pharmaceutical aluminum foil is tested to ensure that the surface pattern of the aluminum foil after printing, coating and other treatments is firm and does not fall off, which is conducive to the clear presentation of drug labels and convenient for patients to use.

The final heat resistance test verifies the stability of PTP blister foil in high temperature environments, preventing deformation or melting, and effectively ensuring the safety and effectiveness of drugs in various environments.
